Baby Girl Names That Have Fallen off The Face of the Earth (F-J)

Farrah – Saw popularity in the 1970's and slid down.
Fay – saw its fame in the 1920's and went downhill from there. Faye rode a similar wave.
Felicia – Dove after the 60's and never recovered. Might be difficult for this name to see a recovery due to the meme.
Fern – This name was a big hit in the 1900's, but despite an uptick near the 2000's, does not appear to be on the rise.
Florence – Dropped from popularity after the 1880's and never recovered.
Frances – Reached its height in the 1900's. Soon fell of the face of the earth, never to be seen again.
Francesca is more popular, but still hasn't reached top 100 status.
Francine – Last saw popularity in the 1940's. Disappeared by the 1990's.
Gabriella – last peaked in the late 2000's, although its popularity is declining. Sister name Gabrielle has steadily declined since the 90's.
Georgette – last saw popularity in the 40's and fell from there.
Georgia – has been falling since the 1930's but watch out for possible comeback.
Georgina – reached its height by the 1960's. Disappeared before the 90's.
Geraldine – reached its height in the 20's. Disappeared by the 70's.
Gina – After the 20's, it descended.
Ginger – peaked in the 60's. Gone by the 90's.
Giselle – had a spike in the 90’s, but descended from there. Never quite made it to the top 100.
Gladys- Last popular in the 1890’s, this name is showing no signs of making a recovery.
Glenda – Reached its peak in the 1930’s. Then disappeared.
Gloria – Hasn’t seen popularity since the 1930’s.
Golda – Saw popularity in the 1890’s. Went steadily downhill after that.
Gretchen – saw some popularity in the 60’s, but it had dwindled completely by the 2000’s.
Gwen – Last popular in the 1940’s. Although a slight spike, doesn’t appear to be making a comeback.
Gwendolyn – This name has ridden along the same lines as Gwen.
Hallie – Hasn’t seen popularity sine the 1880’s. May be see recovery. Doesn’t seem likely at this point.
Harriet – Last popular in the 1900’s, Harriet disappeared by the 1960’s.
Hattie – Very popular in the 1880’s. Gone by the 1960’s.
Heather – The eight most popular name for girls in the 80’s has almost disappeared completely.
Heidi – Last popular in the 60’s, Heidi now remains steadily low in the top 1000 charts. Will it ever make a recovery? Time will tell.
Helen – Last saw the limelight in the 1900’s. This name has never seen a recovery. Watch out for the similar name Helena which appears to be on the rise.
Helga – Saw some popularity in the 1890’s and was completely gone by the 1810’s. This is one of the shortest name trends.
Henrietta – Popular in the 1880s. This name took a downhill slide and shows no signs of recovery.
Hilary/Hillary – Most popular in the 70’s and 80’s, both variations of this name were gone by 2000.
Hilda – Most popular in the 1890’s. This name was gone by the 1980’s.
Holly – hasn’t seen popularity sine the 1970’s. All variant spellings were gone before the 2000’s.
Honora – This name saw quite a bit of popularity in the 1880’s. It took a nosedive, never to be seen again.
Hortense – Last popular in the 1900’s. This name was gone by the 1940’s.
Ida – Very popular in the 1880’s. It was gone by the 1970’s.
Imani – saw some popularity in 2009. Dropped from there.
Imogene – Popular in the 20’s. Gone by the 40’s.
India – Saw a flash of use in the 90’s. Disappeared completely since then.
Inga – Hasn’t ranked since the 1900’s.
Iola – Popular in the 1900’s. Gone before the 50’s.
Iona – rode the same wave as Iola.
Irene – Last popular in the 1910’s. Irene never made a recovery.
Irma – Most popular in the 1890’s. Slid downhill. Variant Erma had a similar fate.
Jackie – Last popular in the 50’s. This name has just slid down. No sign of recovery here.
Jacqueline – Most popular in the 50’s. Spiked up in the 70’s. It’s been going downhill sine. Variant spellings seem to have rode a similar wave.
Jaime – Saw a bit of popularity in the 1960’s. Dove and never recovered.
Jamila – Last popular in the 1970’s. Dove and gone by 2000’s.
Jana – Last popular in the 70’s. Gone downhill since.
Jane – Last popular in the 1940’s. No signs of a recovery so far.
Janell/Janelle – Last saw some popularity in the 70’s. Has never seen true popularity. Does not show signs of recovery.
Janet – Last popular in the 1940’s. This name has been on a downhill slide since then.
Janice – Ranked in the top 100 in the 1940’s. Went down from there with no signs of recovery.
Janie – Popular until the 1930’s. Took a downward slide after that and shows no signs of recovery.
Janine – This baby name spiked in popularity in the 60’s. It was gone by the 2000’s.
Janis – Most popular in the 30’s and 40’s. This name was gone by the 70’s.
Janna – Rose up out of nowhere in the 60’s. Stayed till the 70’s. Then saw itself out.
Jannie – Popular in the 1890’s. Then rode downhill.
Jazlyn/Jazlynn – Saw a bit of popularity in 2010. Has been riding downhill since.
Jean – Poplar in the 1920’s. This name slide down and never recovered. Variant spelling Jeanne never saw as much popularity as Jean.
Jeana/Jeanna – Were both popular between 1960 and 1970. Both slid down and haven’t recovered.
Jemima – Last popular in the 1880’s. This name was gone by the 1890’s.
Jena – Last popular in the 1970’s. Immediately dropped and was almost gone by the 2000’s.
Jenna – Last popular in 2007. Jenna is steadily dropping.
Jennifer – Most popular in the 1970’s. This name has shown a decline and no signs of recovery. Nickames Jennie/Jenni/Jenny all rode a similar wave, although Jennie was popular before Jennifer was even on the charts.
Jeri – Last popular in the 1940’s. Spelling variations rode a similar wave, but Jerri lasted until the 1950’s.
Jesse – Saw some use in the 1980’s. Hasn’t been used since. Variant spelling Jessie hasn’t been popular since the 1880’s.
Jessica – Was at its height in the 1970’s. This name is going down and showing no signs of recovery. Variant spelling Jessika was popular in the 80’s and gone by the 2000’s.
Jewel – Last popular in the 1910’s. Started to make a slight comeback in the 2010’s, but didn’t make it back to popularity.
Jill – Last saw popularity in the 1960’s. Pretty much gone by the 2000’s.
Jillian – Last saw popular in 2008. Has dropped since then.
Jo – Popular in the 1930’s. It has descended since then.
Joan – Most popular in the 1920’s. It pretty much nosedived after that.
Joanie – Poplar only in the 50’s. It spiked and then dropped.
Joanne – Last popular in the 1930’s. It almost completely disappeared by the 2000’s. However, similar name Joanna appears to be on the rise.
Jody – Last popular in the 60’s. Gone by the 90’s.
Joelle – Last popular in the 80’s, although it wasn’t super popular even then. Gone by the 2000’s.
Johanna – Most popular in the 1880’s. This name has gone up and down since then, but ultimately hasn’t made a recovery.
Josette – Briefly popular in the 60’s and then never heard of again.
Joy – This name spiked up in the 1930’s. It took a downward slide and never recovered.
Joyce – This name experienced a similar run to Joy.
Juanita – This name was last popular in the 1920’s. It shows no signs of a recovery.
Judith – This name spiked up in the 1930’s. It hasn’t seen popularity since then.
Judy – This name followed the same course as Judith.
June – It was last popular in the 1920’s. Although it’s seeing some use again, it doesn’t seem likely that it will make a full recovery.
Justina – This name found fame in the 1980’s. Then it nosedived.

Justine – This name followed Justina, becoming popular in the 1990’s. But it also dove.

Girl Names That Have Fallen Off The Face of the Earth (A-E)

This is my first list in a planned series about names that have taken a dive in popularity. Armed with a baby name book and the SSA baby names site, I set to work looking for names that were once famous and then lost it all.

This list will have lots of options for the parents who want a name that's "not common, but not weird".

Without further ado, here is the first set of names.

Alyssa - peaked in the 90's, but has been steadily falling.

Amber - peaked in the 70's and has steadily dropped.

Andrea -  After the 70's, it saw a big decline in popularity.

Angela - last saw popularity in 2002 and has been dropping since.

April - saw huge popularity at the end of the 70's and went down from there.

Ashley - saw some popularity in the 2000's, but does appear to be diving.

Beatrice has not seen the top 100 chart since 1934

Bridget, Bridgettediving since the 1960's, neither of the variations of this lovely name seem ready for a comeback. 

Brittanyhas not seen popularity since 2000. Alternate spelling Britney is safe as well.

Brookelast popular in 2011

Cameron - This baby name never saw true popularity. It has steadily declined since its peak in the 90's. Watch out for a possible turnaround in popularity.

Carleen and Carlene both dropped before the 1970's.

Carlottathis baby name peeked in the 1940's and dropped in the 1960's.

Cassandrapopular in the 1980's but has taken a big dive.

Catherinehas been steadily falling since the 1940's, but looks like it might be on the verge of a comeback.

Chelseapeaked in the 1990's. No sign of a comeback.

Cheyenne peaked in the 1980's. Then took a big dive.

Christinapeaked in the 1970's and steadily dropping ever since

Clarissapeaked in the 1980's. This one has an uptick so might be on the verge of a comeback.

Courtney peaked in the 1980's. Doesn't appear to be ready for a comeback.

Crystal peaked in the 1970's. Took a big dive after that.

Cynthia – peaked in the 1940's and slid down from there.

Daisypeaked in the 1880's. Surprisingly, might make a comeback.

Dakotacurrently dropping but may see a comeback. Never in the top 100.

Daniellepeaked in the 1970's and steadily falling since.

DawnDawn was popular from the 60's to the 70's and took a dive. It never recovered.

DeanaMust like Dawn, it saw popularity in the 60's, took a dive, and never recovered.

DeborahPeaked in the 1940's and has been diving ever since.

DeirdrePeaked in the 50's. Disappeared completely by 1990.

DenisePeaked in 50's and steadily dropped from there.

DesireeBursted in popularity from the 70's to the 80's and has been diving since.

Destiny Shot up in the 90's and then quickly fell. No comeback in sight.

Dorothypeaked in the 1910's and soon fell, never to return.

Ebony – Peaked in the 70's. Gone by the 00's. Never in the top 100. Doesn't appear to be on the verge of a comeback, but definitely has the feel of a popular name.

Eileen – Spiked up between 30's and 40's. Then dropped.

Elaine – Hasn't seen popularity since the 1940's. Watch out for alternate form Elaina which is on the rise!

Ellen – Last popular in the 30's. No sign of a comeback.

Emmaline – Never seen true popularity. Has the look and feel of more popular names like Madeline.

Erica – peaked in the 70's. Then steadily dove.

Erin – also peaked in the 70's, then steadily dove.


Estelle – was at its height in the 1900's. Never really saw a return.
